Stacy Garcia Coaches University of Houston's Best in Texas Mock Trial Team

Garcia & Gibbs, LLP is proud to celebrate firm partner Stacy Garcia's continued involvement in developing the next generation of trial lawyers through her work as a coach for the University of Houston Law Center Mock Trial Team.

This year marked Stacy's second year coaching the University of Houston team at the prestigious Best in Texas Mock Trial Competition, hosted by the Texas Chapters of the American Board of Trial Advocates (TEX-ABOTA).

The Best in Texas competition offers law students a truly unique trial advocacy experience. Unlike many law school competitions, participants present their cases before real jurors and have the opportunity to receive meaningful feedback drawn from actual jury deliberations. Teams also have the rare opportunity to select multiple juries throughout the competition, giving students valuable insight into voir dire strategy and jury selection that closely mirrors real-world trial practice.

This hands-on experience helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and the courtroom, allowing students to develop practical advocacy skills that will serve them throughout their legal careers.

The University of Houston Mock Trial Team entered the competition with an impressive reputation. The program is currently ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 11 nationally, reflecting the dedication, preparation, and talent of its student advocates.

The students delivered an outstanding performance against some of the strongest advocacy programs in the state. Their professionalism, preparation, and courtroom skills were on full display throughout the competition.

The weekend was highlighted by an individual achievement from a UH membere, who earned the Most Professional Advocate Award in a remarkable four-way tie. The award recognizes exceptional professionalism, civility, and advocacy, qualities that are fundamental to both ABOTA's mission and the legal profession as a whole.

"One of the most rewarding aspects of practicing law is having the opportunity to mentor future trial lawyers," said Stacy Garcia. "The University of Houston students consistently impress me with their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence. I am honored to be part of their journey and excited to see what they accomplish in the future."

Garcia & Gibbs, LLP remains committed to supporting trial advocacy education and the organizations that promote excellence, professionalism, and civility in the courtroom. We congratulate the University of Houston Mock Trial Team on another outstanding showing.

We are especially proud of Stacy's continued commitment to mentoring law students and helping shape the future of the Texas trial bar.
